waiOS · Reporting

Energy reports that say how each figure was measured.

waiOS will total the energy an organisation's WAI work used across encode, delivery and decode, from signed figures that each carry their acquisition class. Each figure will keep the C2PA manifest that binds it to its reconstruction, where one was emitted; fleet and period totals will need a report form that is new waiOS work. Carbon will be reported beside energy and always labelled as modelled from a stated factor.

Roadmap Not yet operating. Each open component below is labelled with where it stands on the WAI status page.

The three labels

In the standard
The open component is in the main branch of the WAI open standard. Its link goes to its row on the dated WAI status page, and its notes are that row's.
Building
The open component is in active development, as the WAI status page lists it.
Roadmap
Planned: a WAI roadmap item, or a waiOS service. Every waiOS service is on the roadmap; none is operating yet.

Attested, in WAI, means signed by the party that did the work and measured it: a reader can check the signature, not re-measure the figure. It is not hardware attestation.

01 · The service

What waiOS will total, and how each total is labelled.

  • Totals by session class, title, region and period, keeping each figure's acquisition class and coverage.
  • Measured and modelled figures kept apart. A hardware reading and a modelled estimate are never summed into one unlabelled number.
  • Per-reconstruction C2PA manifests carried with the figures they bind, as the standard defines them.
  • A report form for fleet and period totals, which is new waiOS work: the standard defines no C2PA form for an aggregate.
  • Carbon reported as a modelled figure, derived from the energy figure and a stated grid factor, in its own field, and never as a measurement.
  • Work that was not metered shown as not metered, never as zero.
02 · Builds on

Open components, each with its WAI label.

  • In the standard

Energy acquisition classes, signed beside each figure.

Notes Unmetered work carries no figure and reads as not metered.

  • In the standard

A receipt object's figure, class and origin bound into its Merkle leaf, and a labelled group that signs its total's class, its coverage and the parent link.

  • In the standard

Measurement claims report on a figure without changing the receipt that seals it, and ratios and verdicts are derived by every reader, never stated.

  • In the standard

Unmetered work is never a figure of zero joules.

  • In the standard

C2PA manifest emission binding an energy figure to the one reconstruction it was measured over. The binding forbids presenting a carbon figure derived from a grid factor as measured.

Notes An optional build feature. The manifest validates; signer trust comes from the verifier's trust list.

03 · Roadmap

Planned, in the standard and in the service.

  • Roadmap· waiOS

Fleet and period energy and carbon reports, in a report form that is new waiOS work.

  • Roadmap· WAI

Energy receipts for origins, hops and relays.

04 · Limits

What this page does not claim.

  • The standard binds a figure to one reconstruction. A fleet or period total is not a reconstruction, and the standard defines no C2PA form for one.
  • C2PA emission is an optional build feature of the reference implementation, and a manifest's signer is trusted only as far as the verifier's trust list trusts it.
  • Energy figures cover the work measured. They do not cover displays.
  • waiOS will report figures; it will not certify them.
  • No energy or carbon saving is stated on this site.
